US Azerbaijani Diaspora to take active part in November 2 midterm elections

Azerbaijanâ€™s national interests, US-Azerbaijani relationsâ€™ priorities and other factors will be the main priority of Azerbaijani-Americans during the November 2, 2010 midterm electionsâ€™ in US, APAâ€™s Washington DC correspondent was told by Azerbaijani Diaspora members.

â€œWe are going to take an active part in it as Azerbaijani-Americans, and more widely, as Turkic-Americans. Itâ€™s very important that we all, as US citizens of Turkic descent, take part in the electionsâ€, says the US Azerbaijanis statement.

According to US Azerbaijanis Network, while there are no Azerbaijani-Americans running for office this cycle, there are several Turkish-American candidates in Maryland, Texas and California.

The candidate who has long-standing links with the Azerbaijani-American community is Mr. Oz Bengur, whose fundraiser a member of the USAN Board of Directors has recently attended.

This year Oz is running for a State of Maryland legislature seat, and taking into account his great experience and name recognition, has very good chances of being elected as the first Turkic-American in any state legislature in US.

Besides that, the US Azerbaijanis will also oppose the election process of Senator Barbara Boxer (Democrat, California), who was against Matthew Bryzaâ€™s candidacy as a US Ambassador to Azerbaijan. The Diaspora members will also oppose pro-Armenian candidates Michael Bennet (Democrat, Colorado), and Harry Reid (Democrat,Nevada).

According to the latest polls, all three above have a very high chance of losing the elections and if so, would be replaced with more neutral Senators who will be less prone to Armenian lobbyâ€™s influence.
