Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. UNESCO will investigate the ban on education of thirty million of Azerbaijanis in their native language in Iran.

The South Azerbaijan National Freedom Front (GAMAC) sent a letter to UNESCO informing about the ban on education in Azerbaijani language in Iran, endangering of the native language of thirty million of Azerbaijanis living there as a result of discrimination policy by the government of Iran.

Iranian Shah Reza Pahlavi banned education of languages of non-Persian people in Iran under the pretext of establishing centralized government and state in Iran in 1925, said GAMAC in its letter and added that the current government of Iran also keeps the forces trying to protect their national and cultural identity under the military and political pressure.

GAMAC asked UNESCO to take immediate measures for prevention of loss of Azerbaijani language in Iran and to include the language of Azerbaijani Turks in Iran in the UNESCO Atlas on endangered languages.
