Annual Turkish Festival in Washington DC

The 8th festival gathered around 15 thousand people who enjoyed the Turkish and Azeri dances, entertainment, food, sweets, art performances, tourism exhibitions and Turkish coffee.

The event was also marked by an attempt to enter into the Guinness Record Book by cooking the longest shish-kebob in the world. Chef Murat Aksu built a shish-kebob 6-meter-long.

According to the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC, more than USD $80,000 were spent on the festival.

The festival was held in a convenient location – in the centre of Washington DC, two blocks away from the White House.

During the festival Azerbaijani culture and cuisine were also presented for the visitors along with Uighur, Uzbek and other cultures.

Dancers Ikram Jelil, Farghana Kalantarli and the Kardelen Turkish Dance Ensemble performed Azerbaijani traditional dances.
