An explosive device detonated aboard a passenger minibus in the Damascus suburb of Jaramana on Thursday, killing two people and injuring 13 others, APA reports citing Syrian state media.
State-run Al-Ikhbariya TV first reported that the device exploded inside the minibus, killing and wounding several people, though it did not immediately provide casualty figures or details on the circumstances of the blast.
The state news agency SANA later cited the Health Ministry's Referral, Ambulance and Emergency Directorate in confirming the death toll of two, with 13 people injured.
Syria's Interior Ministry and security authorities had not issued an official statement as of publication, and no group had claimed responsibility for the blast. The cause of the explosion remained unclear.
Emergency response mobilized
Najib al-Naasan, director of the Health Ministry's Referral, Ambulance and Emergency Directorate, said forensic teams were handling human remains found at the scene in accordance with established procedures.
He said nearby hospitals and emergency departments were placed on high alert, while ambulances and medical teams were mobilized to transport the wounded for treatment.
SANA reported that ambulances, Interior Ministry forensic teams, Civil Defense personnel and Syrian Arab Red Crescent crews continued working at the scene in the explosion's aftermath.
The damaged minibus was being removed by crane so that technical examinations and the investigation could proceed. Images and videos circulating on social media showed the heavily damaged vehicle, with debris scattered across the road and in front of nearby residential buildings.
