"As predicted earlier, foggy weather conditions are currently observed across the country. During the daytime, the relatively high temperature at the surface and the cooling of the surface layer at night result in the formation of inversion fog," said Umayra Taghiyeva, the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan,, APA reports.
She mentioned that the maximum temperature recorded in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula in recent days was 16 degrees Celsius: "Yesterday, the temperature was 6.7 degrees higher than the climate norm. The temperature above the climate norm is also observed in the regions. The formation of the inversion layer in calm, windless weather is also favorable for foggy conditions. Currently, foggy weather is observed in Sumgayit, Bina, Guba, Yevlakh, Zardab, Imishli, Sabirabad, Jafarkhan, Bilasuvar, Shemkir, and Lankaran, with visibility limited to 200 meters."
According to Umayra Taghiyeva, the foggy weather conditions observed across the country are expected to last intermittently until the afternoon of February 3: "In December and January, the average monthly temperature was 1.2 degrees above the norm. The relatively high-temperature regime will continue in the first days of February. As every year, cold periods are not excluded during February, and the public is warned about this 3-4 days in advance.
Starting from the second half of the first ten days of February, it is forecasted that the weather will change, the temperature will decrease, the northwest wind will occasionally strengthen, and precipitation will occur."
