On August 8, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the United States of America Donald Trump held a telephone conversation, APA reports.

During the telephone conversation, satisfaction was expressed on the occasion of the anniversary of the Washington Summit. It was emphasized that the Washington Peace Summit, the Joint Declaration signed with U.S. President Donald Trump as a witness, and the initialing of the agreement on the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia had brought an end to the conflict in the region and established peace.

The head of state expressed his gratitude to Donald Trump for hosting the Washington Peace Summit and for his contributions to the peace agenda.

Donald Trump highly appreciated President Ilham Aliyev’s role in the peace process.

It was noted with satisfaction that peace and stability had been ensured in the region over the past year and that there had been no incidents capable of undermining peace in the region.

The export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, the transportation of transit cargo to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan, and the commencement of trade relations between the two countries were noted as positive developments.

During the telephone conversation, the importance of the TRIPP project in terms of regional connectivity was emphasized, and it was noted that work on transport infrastructure in the territory of Azerbaijan was nearing completion.

Hope was expressed that work on the TRIPP project in the territory of Armenia would begin soon.

The heads of state also discussed issues on the bilateral agenda.

The signing of the document on the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States was described as a historic event. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan-U.S. relations had reached a qualitatively new and higher level and had acquired a strategic character, contributing to peace and stability across a broader region.

The head of state thanked the U.S. President for the invitation to the G20. This was regarded as a manifestation of the goodwill toward Azerbaijan.

During the telephone conversation, confidence was expressed that the Azerbaijan-U.S. strategic partnership would continue to develop successfully.
