US, Turkey and Russia are responsible for 34% of spam emails

The U.S. is responsible for 17.2 percent of the 200 billion junk mail messages sent daily, followed by Turkey (9.2 percent), Russia (8 percent), Canada (4.7 percent) and Brazil (4.1 percent), India (3.5 percent), Poland (3.4 percent), South Korea (3.3 percent), Germany and the United Kingdom (2.9 percent each), said a new report by Cisco.
According to the report, 90 percent of e-mails sent across the world are spam.
Malware sent as e-mail attachments is on the decline, according to the report. The number of e-mail file attachment attacks is down by 50 percent.
Phishing is expected to become more prevalent as hackers personalize spam in an effort to make an e-mail message appear credible. Botnets is on the rise as numerous Web sites were infected using the HTML markup IFrames. IFrames can inject malicious code by botnets that redirect visitors to malware Web sites.
