CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay stated that the organization has achieved significant institutional development in recent years and that practical cooperation among member states has expanded, APA reports.
Kairat Sarybay made the remarks during his speech at the plenary session of the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The Secretary General noted that since 2022, four new advisory bodies and mechanisms have been established and launched within CICA. According to him, nearly 100 events have been held over the past four years across the organization's five dimensions of confidence-building measures.
Kairat Sarybay emphasized that CICA member states have demonstrated their ability to reach consensus, achieve results through negotiations, and adopt political declarations and thematic documents.
He stated that Cambodia's ratification of the Convention on Privileges and Immunities would contribute to the document's entry into force and strengthen CICA's legal status. Kazakhstan's ratification of amendments to the host country agreement is also important for strengthening the organization's institutional and legal foundations.
The Secretary General thanked the member states for supporting the establishment of CICA's headquarters, as well as Azerbaijan's chairmanship for presenting a Karabakh horse statue. He expressed gratitude to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his support in establishing the headquarters building.
According to Kairat Sarybay, during the 20 years of CICA Secretariat's operation, the organization has received voluntary financial contributions from 18 member states, while eight countries have seconded staff members. Currently, citizens of nine countries are represented among the Secretariat's international staff.
Announcing the end of his six-year term, Kairat Sarybay wished success to the incoming CICA Secretary General, Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev, and called on member states to provide their full support for his work.
He emphasized that serving CICA had been a great honor for him and expressed his readiness to continue supporting the organization in the future.
