Georgian opposition announces protest rallies

An alliance comprising nine Georgian opposition parties will launch a large-scale protest campaign starting October 25, members of the “Opposition Alliance” said at a briefing, APA’s local bureau reports.

The rallies will protest the consideration by Georgia’s Constitutional Court of a lawsuit seeking the dissolution of opposition parties.

The first rally will be held in Tbilisi. Protests will also be organized in Batumi in front of the Constitutional Court building.

The protest campaign will conclude in Tbilisi on November 28.

It should be noted that Georgia’s Constitutional Court has begun considering a lawsuit filed by 88 members of the country’s parliament seeking the dissolution of opposition parties. The lawsuit, which demands that the United National Movement Party, the “For Change” coalition, “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” the “Federalists,” and the “Gakharia for Georgia” parties be declared unconstitutional, will be considered at hearings to be held next week.
