Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. One policeman has been arrested in connection with the death at a police department in Mingachevir.
Spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office Eldar Sultabov told APA that senior police lieutenant Shahlar Shahlarzadeh, a former operating officer at the Mingachevir city police department, has been put in pretrial detention for 4 months under the Criminal Code’s articles 125 (bringing to suicide) and 308.2 (abusing official powers entailing heavy consequences).
Note that, the Interior Ministry has said in a statement that on August 20 Mingachevir city resident Bahruz Hajiyev, who was taken to the city’s police department on suspicion of selling and using narcotics, suddenly threw himself off the window during interrogation.
“A forensic medical examination on the body of the deceased made it clear that there were no signs of physical violence on him. The prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal case over the death incident and a judicial assessment will be given based on the result of the investigation. Meanwhile, on August 22 a group of citizens have committed an act of hooliganism by attempting to hold a rally in downtown Baku. As a result, 4 Interior Ministry employees received bodily injuries of varying severity while dealing with the crowd. 21 people who violated the public order have been detained and along with collected materials were sent to a court for a legal action. We express our regret for the incident and extend our condolences to deceased Bahruz Hajiyev’s parents. We also remind that those who, inspired by destructive elements to abuse such incidednts, attempt to violate the public order and stability in the city, will be prevented decisively, and those guilty will be taken a legal action against,” said the prosecutor’s office.
