The death toll from a collapse at an illegal gold mine in southwestern Colombia has risen to 14, Caracol television reported, citing Nariño department’s secretary for peace and human rights, Alex González.
Seven other people were injured.
“We now know that 14 people have died. Another seven were injured. Search operations have been completed,” González said.
The incident occurred at an illegal open-pit gold mine in the municipality of Santa Bárbara. A landslide buried workers engaged in gold extraction.
Authorities had previously reported nine deaths.
