According to the statement, on 4 July 2015, German Sterligov, head of the Board of Directors of German Sterligov Group of Companies, and his family members, who previously entered into a criminal conspiracy with other persons living in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, illegally crossed into the occupied territories avoiding checkpoints and the protected state border of Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, holding a press conference in Shusha on 13 July 2015 to promote illegal regime at the international level, supporting "independence" of the so-called regime through his posts on social network VKontakte, he made public calls for infringement of the internationally recognized territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, religious and ethnic division, illegal exploitation of natural resources in the occupied territories, production of counterfeit currency and money laundering. He was engaged in illegal business activities and involved his family members, the statement said.
Sterligov faced charges of making public anti-state calls and illegally crossing the Azerbaijani border under article # 281.2 (public calls against the state) and 318.2 (illegally crossing state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, the statement said.
On 31 August 2015, Sterligov was detained by Russian law-enforcement officers at Domodedovo airport. He flew from Yerevan to Moscow. At 1:00 AM he was temporarily released under the condition of not leaving Russian territory.
An operational investigative team, consisting of experienced officers of General Prosecutor’s Office and Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan, has been sent to Moscow to interrogate Sterligov.
