Lawyer tells court of links between Ramiz Mehdiyev, Linguistics Institute director, and Sharurlu Isfandiyar

The next court hearing on the special indictment filed against Isfandiyar Akhundov (Sharurlu Isfandiyar), the owner of “Sharur MTK,” has taken place, APA reports.

Today, in the process held at the Binagadi District Court, chaired by Judge Vusal Taghiyev, Nazakat Gaziyeva, a specialist at the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, submitted her expert opinion in writing to the court.

Subsequently, the expert announced the conclusive part of the opinion.

The expert stated that although the words in the video are sharply negative, they should not be considered an insult but rather evaluated as criticism. The expressions used there are characteristic of common words, exist in our vocabulary, and do not constitute an insult.

Asim Abbasov, the lawyer of Emil Samandarov, who filed the special indictment, objected to the submitted opinion.

The lawyer stated that they had objected to the opinion last time as well, but this time the opinion was also submitted to the court in written form. He also noted that there is a contradiction between the previously voiced opinion and the current one.

At the same time, the lawyer informed the court that the opinion is biased: “The current director of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS was appointed in 2021. During that period, there was a ‘Bermuda triangle’ type of connection between the President of ANAS, the director of the Institute of Linguistics, and the accused. I believe the opinion is biased. I request that this opinion be removed from the list of evidence. I ask the court for time to submit my objection in writing.”

The lawyer of the accused, Isfandiyar Akhundov, Ulvi Nasibli, objected to this and informed the court that the objection was based on the prolongation of the proceedings.

Isfandiyar Akhundov also stated that he agreed with his lawyer and noted that the proceedings had been extended.

The judge stated that the objection is the right of the party and decided to give time to the plaintiff’s side to submit their objection.

The proceedings will continue on December 15.

Recall that during the mentioned period, the President of ANAS was Ramiz Mehdiyev. Ramiz Mehdiyev is currently accused of particularly grave criminal acts under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means) and has been placed under house arrest for a period of 4 months.

Note that a special indictment has been filed against Isfandiyar Akhundov under Articles 147.2 (defamation) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code. The special indictment was filed by Emil Samandarov, the head of “Progress 2016” MTK. According to the accusation, Isfandiyar Akhundov presented Emil Samandarov as a fraud in one of his interviews.
