The investigation into the criminal case initiated against Ilgar Hajiyev has been completed, APA reports.
The official appeal of the Prosecutor General's Office in this regard was broadcast on Ictimai Television.
According to the information, although he was summoned to the Prosecutor General's Office on November 24, he did not appear and proceedings were initiated against him in absentia. By the decision of the Binagadi District Court dated November 27, proceedings were initiated against him in absentia and he was provided with a lawyer.
The investigation against him was completed today. Ilgar Hajiyev and his defense attorneys were informed that conditions would be created in the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office to familiarize themselves with the criminal case from December 12 without any time limit.
Ilgar Hajiyev was warned that if he does not appear for the investigation, the criminal case could be sent to court in absentia and a verdict could be issued against him in absentia.
Ilgar Hajiyev was previously charged under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was in effect until 2017. A decision to summon him as a suspect was made. As he fled the country and was hiding abroad, a search warrant was issued for him to be charged. On January 13th, 2021, the Nizami District Court selected a special measure of arrest in absentia against him.
On November 14, additions and changes were made to the content of the charges, and a decision was issued to charge Ilgar Hajiyev as an accused person under Articles 178.3.2 and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan that was in force until December 1, 2017.
It was noted that while he was the head of SDI Group LLC from 2016 to 2017, he used his official position to receive $10 million (16.27 million manats) in front of Heydar Aliyev International Airport located in Moscow, the Russian Federation, and in the Khazar district of Baku, and fraudulently seized and legalized a large amount of the victim's property.
