Court upholds pretrial detention order for APFP chairman Ali Karimli

A court hearing was held on the appeal against the decision to choose a pretrial detention measure for Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), who was detained during an operation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS), APA reports.

Today, at the Baku Court of Appeal, under the chairmanship of Judge Emin Mehdiyev, a decision was made.

The appeal was denied, and the decision on the selection of the pretrial detention measure was upheld.

Recall that by the decision of the Sabail District Court, a pretrial detention measure of 2 months and 15 days was chosen for Ali Karimli.

Ali Karimli has been charged under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code (actions aimed at forcibly seizing power or forcibly changing the constitutional order of the state).

Note that Ali Karimli, chairman of the APFP, and Mammad Ibrahimli, a member of the party’s Presidium, were interrogated at the SSS as part of the investigation.

After searches were conducted at their residences, they were taken to the SSS.

The searches and interrogations at the homes of Ali Karimli and Mammad Ibrahimli are related to the criminal case being investigated at the SSS concerning Ramiz Mehdiyev.

The former head of the Presidential Administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, is charged under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through crime) of the Criminal Code.
