Ombudsperson receives Charge dâ€™Affairs of the US embassy in Azerbaijan

Baku â€“ APA. Commissioner for the Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova received Charge d’Affairs of the US embassy in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling. Ombudspersonâ€™s Office told APA that the meeting aimed to become familiar with the presentation of annual report of the US Department of State on human rights in the world countries and newly-appointed second secretary for the political affairs at the US embassy Jeff Khurgel. Suleymanova informed the guest about works carried out towards protection of human rights, activity of the National Preventive Mechanism group against the tortures, close relations with the state organizations, civil societies, NGOs and international organizations.

Ombudsperson said that the report of the US Department of State was prepared very interestedly, didnâ€™t reflect the truth about situation of human rights in Azerbaijan. At the same time she noted that the reportâ€™s text translated into Azerbaijani language would be analyzed. The guest thanked the ombudsperson for sincere reception and effective exchange of view.
