The United States and Israel are considering resuming military operations against Iran after the November 3 US congressional midterm elections, APA reports, citing The New York Times.

Washington and Tel Aviv have drawn up a plan for a brief but intensive military operation, according to sources.

Potential targets reportedly include Iran’s nuclear facilities, energy infrastructure, and missile and drone storage sites.

The newspaper said a suspected nuclear facility concealed beneath Kolang Gaz La mountain could also be targeted.

However, some US officials said the plans envisage avoiding strikes on Iranian oil refineries because President Donald Trump is concerned about further increases in petrol prices.

Trump has yet to make a final decision on resuming military operations after November 3, the newspaper reported. Nevertheless, the possibility of strikes beginning in October has not been entirely ruled out.

According to the NYT’s assessment, bombing campaigns conducted between February and April contributed to higher energy prices and global inflation, worsening security in the Middle East and a significant depletion of US missile defence stockpiles.
