A series of events is being held in European cities to draw attention to the threat posed by landmines laid by Armenia in Azerbaijani territories, APA reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organisations.
The latest exhibition under the “Mine-Free World” international campaign, implemented by Azerbaijan’s Gilavar Photo Club Public Union, took place in Milan, Italy, on October 17.
Photo exhibitions were also organised in Geneva on October 5, Brno on October 7, Ljubljana on October 9, Sarajevo on October 11, Zagreb on October 13, Salzburg on October 15 and Rome on October 17.
The events highlighted the dangers posed by mines laid during Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Organisers stressed that, although the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has ended, landmines remain a serious risk to civilians.
The campaign is being implemented in partnership with Azerbaijan’s NGO Agency and the Karabakh Revival Fund.
Separately, families of missing Azerbaijanis have launched protests in Europe organised by the Karabakh Missing Persons’ Families Public Union.
On October 20, a group of relatives held a demonstration in Schuman Square in Brussels, described in the statement as being in front of the European Parliament.
Participants highlighted that 4,010 Azerbaijanis went missing during the First Karabakh War, including 71 children, 288 women and 319 elderly people.
They called for clarification of the fate of missing persons and stronger measures to address the landmine threat.
