The US Department of Defense plans to develop a new intelligence programme targeting China and other economic rivals.
APA reports, citing The Washington Post’s October 21 report based on sources, that the programme aims to expand intelligence capabilities in economic competition.
Under the next-generation programme, US operatives would pose as private-sector employees while concealing their ties to the US government.
According to the newspaper, the initiative would form part of the Pentagon’s broader strategy targeting economic rivals.
The programme would reportedly be led by Tom Rakusan, 39, a longtime CIA veteran who currently serves as chief adviser to US Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg.
Rakusan previously worked on matters related to Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
