Russia has backed holding technical-level trilateral peace talks with the United States and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists, APA reports, citing UNIAN.
According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv received the information from the US side.
“The American side proposes holding the meeting as soon as possible, and we support this initiative. I do not yet know the exact date. The main objectives are to end the war, bring peace closer and complete all preparations for a meeting between the leaders,” he said.
Zelenskyy said Ukrainian representatives would negotiate with US and Russian officials to accelerate an end to the war. He believes the trilateral meeting should take place no later than early November.
The Ukrainian president stressed that Kyiv would support proposals for a ceasefire, an end to the war, a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure, humanitarian initiatives and the return of prisoners of war.
“The main initiative behind all these talks, and the most important positive signal, is to meet and get to work as soon as possible,” he said.
Zelenskyy described a meeting between the US, Russian and Ukrainian presidents as essential to advancing the peace process, adding that Europe should also be represented.
He said potential agreements would address security guarantees for Ukraine, post-war reconstruction and support from European partners.
“This is important to us because any agreement will concern security guarantees, the reconstruction of our country after the war and European support. We have discussed all these issues with our partners,” Zelenskyy added.
