The Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that during the discussions the second periodic report submitted by our country to the Working Group was considered and proposals and recommendations of the UN member states were sounded.
At the beginning of the event, head of the Azerbaijan delegation to the Working Group on UPR Khalaf Khalafov delivered a report. He noted that Azerbaijan joined the universal international agreements on protection and promotion of human rights and submitted periodic reports within the UN relevant organizations in time. Head of the Azerbaijani delegation said that our country attaches great importance to the cooperation with special rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council and informed the Working Group on the regular invitations sent by the Azerbaijani government to special rapporteurs.
The participant countries appreciated the measures taken by the Azerbaijani government towards human rights and positive changes, including Azerbaijan’s joining the international documents on human rights, close cooperation of Azerbaijan with the Human Rights Council and its mechanisms and regular care of the Azerbaijani government to the protection and promotion of human rights.
Following this, the delegation expressed views on the issues raised by the countries and informed the participants about the judicial reforms, full realization of the freedom of press, expression and assembly in our country, protection of children's and women's rights, state of implementation of international documents in the field of human rights.
During the session the Armenian representative tried to prevent head of the Azerbaijani delegation from expressing fair position on Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, but President of the Human Rights Council called on the Armenian side to refrain from such steps.
