Population censuses have been conducted in Azerbaijan in 1999, 2009, and 2019 since the restoration of the country's independence, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting dedicated to issues related to the upcoming population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The prime minister noted that during the censuses conducted in the years of independence, it was impossible to carry out this important state measure in the occupied territories because 20% of the country's territory was under occupation and the residents of those regions had become internally displaced persons.
"In this regard, the upcoming population census is of particular historical significance. As a result of the historic Victory achieved by the glorious Azerbaijani Army in the Patriotic War under the leadership of President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the full restoration of our country's sovereignty, for the first time in the history of independence, the population census will cover the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan and will be a nationwide census," he said.
