An expanded meeting dedicated to issues related to the 2029 population census in Azerbaijan was held at the Cabinet of Ministers on July 17 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ali Asadov, the Cabinet of Ministers told APA.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the meeting discussed the implementation of the tasks arising from President Ilham Aliyev's Decree of July 7, 2026, "On conducting the population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029," as well as preparations for and the implementation of the census.
Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Ali Asadov stressed the importance of the population census, the most comprehensive source of information on the population, for the objective assessment of demographic processes and the planning of the country's socio-economic development.
It was noted that the next population census, to be conducted in 2029, will have special historical significance.
"This is because, for the first time in the history of our independence, following the historic Victory achieved by the glorious Azerbaijan Army in the Patriotic War under the wise leadership of President, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the full restoration of our country's sovereignty, the nationwide population census will cover the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan," Ali Asadov said.
It was stated that, in order to ensure the implementation of the President's Decree, the Cabinet of Ministers will approve an appropriate Action Plan, and a Central Commission for Assistance with the Population Census, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, will be established to coordinate the activities of central and local executive authorities, agencies, enterprises, and organizations related to the preparation and conduct of the census.
It was emphasized that, in accordance with the relevant UN requirements and recommendations, as well as national priorities, the population census is planned to be conducted for the first time using digital technologies and administrative and geospatial data.

A meeting dedicated to issues related to the upcoming population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan is being held at the Cabinet of Ministers, APA reports.
The meeting discusses preparations for the next population census, the organizational measures to be taken, and the responsibilities of the relevant state institutions.
Representatives of the relevant state bodies are participating in the meeting.
The prime minister will brief the participants on the work to be carried out.
It should be recalled that President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on conducting the population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029.
