The main goal of our international cooperation is to raise international awareness of Azerbaijan's mine problem, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov said, APA reports.
Speaking at a briefing held on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the establishment of ANAMA, Suleymanov said that, in addition to ANAMA, both state and private institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations, are involved in mine clearance activities in Azerbaijan.
"In addition to ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, one non-governmental organization, and five local companies are involved in this process. Overall, each institution has its own role, area of responsibility, and performance indicators. We bring the existing challenges, the scale of the problem, and the difficulties we face to the attention of the international community, and we organize international conferences. Our next conference is scheduled to be held in early September.
In addition, we are invited to various events organized by different organizations, where we provide information about the mine threat, the work being carried out in this field, and the specifics of our activities. Undoubtedly, mine action is a highly specialized field. Deminers and mine clearance personnel work carefully, without rushing, and with great attention and professionalism. This work has its own rules and safety requirements. Mine clearance is both difficult and requires a high level of professionalism," he said.
