As a result of comprehensive operational-search and customs control measures carried out by officers of the Astara Customs Department, another large quantity of narcotics — dried marijuana — was detected and removed from illegal circulation, the State Customs Committee said, APA-Economics reports.
A vehicle carrying a shipment of "pepper" from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation in transit through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was subjected to a thorough inspection at the Astara customs post using a stationary X-ray system and a canine service dog.
During the inspection, 55 rectangular packages containing 25 kilograms and 75 grams net weight of the narcotic substance — dried marijuana — were found at the bottom of boxes loaded with peppers, concealed from customs control by being covered with peppers.
An investigation into the fact is underway.
