The presented tax burden is optimal and supports the development of the non-oil sector, said Finance Minister Sahil Babayev during the discussion of the draft law “On the state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026” in its second reading at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.

The Minister noted that the share of tax revenues in our overall economy in the gross domestic product (GDP) is 15.9 percent, that is, less than 16 percent: “This means that there is a higher tax regime in the oil sector and a lower one in the non-oil sector. Therefore, our overall figure is only 15.9 percent. When we look at the regions, post-Soviet countries, and developing countries, we see that the ratio of the tax burden to GDP is generally between 19–23 percent. That is, today the tax burden presented by Azerbaijan, especially for the non-oil sector, is quite optimal, balanced, and a regime that supports the development of the non-oil sector.”
