As of July 1 this year, Azerbaijan's state-guaranteed debt (domestic and external) amounted to AZN 7,232.3 million, or 5.5% of the country's projected gross domestic product (GDP) of AZN 130,873.5 million for 2026, APA-Economics reports, citing the Ministry of Finance's Statistical Bulletin on Public Debt and State-Guaranteed Debt for the First Half of 2026.

Of the total state-guaranteed debt, AZN 4,928.0 million ($2,898.8 million), or 68.1%, accounted for external state-guaranteed loans, while AZN 2,304.3 million, or 31.9%, represented domestic state-guaranteed loans.

According to the bulletin, the significant decline in external state-guaranteed debt was mainly due to the repayment of $2.0 billion in foreign currency-denominated bonds issued under a state guarantee by the Southern Gas Corridor Closed Joint-Stock Company.
