French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said in a press statement, that Paris refuses to transfer weapons from its arsenals to Kiev, with the aim of forcing Ukraine to buy new weapons from French companies using the funds allocated for that, APA reports.

The Defense Minister added, “We are now negotiating with our Ukrainian colleagues to force Ukraine to buy new howitzers using money from a special fund, so that the French army will no longer have to transfer weapons from its arsenals.”

The Minister referred to a recently published parliamentary report, stating that the volume of French military aid to Ukraine amounts to three billion Euros.

According to the same report, 200 million Euros were allocated from the French budget to a special fund to support Ukraine, where Kiev can spend money on purchasing new weapons, but only from French suppliers.

The minister stressed that France “prefers to provide significant support, but does not talk about everything it does,” noting that Paris is focusing on two main areas of assistance: providing Kiev with air defense capabilities, including anti-drone capabilities, and ground forces equipment, including artillery and transport.
