This night around one o’clock, an explosion shook the industrial area of ​​San Lorenzo Nuovo, in the upper Viterbo area, causing a fire in a structure used to welcome asylum seekers. The explosion generated fear and required rapid rescue intervention.

Among the dozens of people present in the warehouse, which housed non-EU citizens, there were at least 31 injured, including some minors and teenagers. The prefect of Viterbo activated the Coc (Municipal Operations Center) to coordinate the emergency response, while the Viterbo mobile team investigates the causes of the accident.

The roar, felt like an earthquake by many residents, led to the mobilization of three helicopters and numerous emergency vehicles. Dozens of ambulances, together with three 118 helicopters, are on site. Some injured people, including children, were transported under code red to Siena, while eight people were taken to Acquapendente hospital. Injured people also taken to Viterbo and Rome. The ambulances arrived from Acquapendente, Bolsena and Montefiascone. Intervention by the firefighters of Gradoli and Viterbo.

The causes of the explosion are still unknown, but the massive event required timely efforts to rescue the trapped people. The local community is active in managing the emergency.
