The crisis caused by the war in the Middle East has created significant gaps in Europe’s energy supply chain and increased risks in the aviation fuel segment, Türkiye’s Dünya newspaper reports, citing International Energy Agency (IEA) chief Fatih Birol.

He recalled that Europe previously met 75% of its aviation fuel demand from the Middle East, but supply routes have now shifted to Nigeria and the United States.

Stating that supply problems are already affecting airline ticket prices, Fatih Birol said:

“I will meet with Nigeria’s oil minister to encourage increased exports. If supply is not sufficiently increased, a serious fuel shortage could emerge within 6–7 weeks in some regions, particularly in Europe.”
