The day when Nakhchivan’s electricity will be generated entirely from green sources is not far away, Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Sultanov said, APA reports.
According to him, the implementation of green energy projects in Nakhchivan is of great importance in terms of strengthening the region’s energy security.
“Nakhchivan is strategically one of the country’s most sensitive areas. Such projects play a major role in Nakhchivan’s energy security,” Elnur Sultanov said.
The Deputy Minister noted that work is underway to increase electricity generation in Nakhchivan through solar and other renewable energy sources.
“Additional solar power plants will become operational in Nakhchivan this year. Taking into account the agreements signed and the projects being implemented, the day when all of Nakhchivan’s electricity will be generated from green sources is not far away,” he said.
Elnur Sultanov emphasized that expanding Nakhchivan’s energy links with Türkiye would also create opportunities for the integration of larger volumes of green energy.
According to him, the transmission of green energy from Nakhchivan to Türkiye and subsequently to Europe, including Bulgaria, is part of Azerbaijan’s broader green energy corridor strategy.
“We are also exploring opportunities to access Europe via the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye route. Work is underway to establish green energy corridors providing access to Europe through Azerbaijan,” the Deputy Minister noted.
