Volkswagen AG's Audi AG announced on Friday it will enter Formula One as a power unit (PU) supplier in the 2026 season, APA reports citing Teletrader.
"Motorsport is an integral part of Audi's DNA," Audi Management Board Chairman Markus Duesmann said at a press conference. "The combination of high performance and competition is always a driver of innovation and technology transfer in our industry. With the new rules, now is the right time for us to get involved."
The new rules for the engines will come into effect in the 2026 season, when Audi is now expected to join the sport. Focusing on sustainability, the regulations will demand competing teams to switch to, as International Automobile Federation (FIA) President Mohammed bin Sulayem previously described, advanced PU technology based on synthetic sustainable fuels.
