Azerbaijani judoka Ushangi Kokauri has secured a silver medal at the World Judo Championships in Baku after losing to Russia's Inal Tasoev in the men's over-100kg final.
Kokauri delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, winning four consecutive bouts before reaching the gold medal contest.
The Azerbaijani athlete began his campaign in the round of 32, defeating Kyrgyzstan's Emirkhan Zholdoshkaziyev to advance to the next stage.
He then overcame Poland's Jakub Sordyl in the round of 16, securing a place in the quarterfinals.
In the last eight, Kokauri faced fellow Azerbaijani judoka Kenan Nasibov and emerged victorious to book his spot in the semifinals.
The heavyweight contender continued his strong run by defeating Finland's Martti Puumalainen, earning a place in the final.
However, Kokauri was unable to overcome Russian judoka Inal Tasoev in the decisive bout and finished the competition with a silver medal.
The World Judo Championships are currently taking place in Azerbaijan's capital, bringing together leading judokas from around the world.
