The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported on Saturday that a supertanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz via an "illegal route" has suffered a "high-intensity explosion" after hitting a sea mine, APA reports.
"The supertanker, which had turned off its navigation and positioning systems, is burning in a huge fire after hitting a sea mine, so that its fire is clearly visible to the people living on the coast," the guard said in a statement carried by Iranian media.
Furthermore, the IRGC warned that a "terrible fire" would be the consequence of "any violating tanker" that tries to bypass Iran's security rules in the strait.
