Azerbaijani Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office holds board meeting in connection with referendum

Baku â€“ APA. Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office held a board meeting on the tasks for discussing, explaining the draft â€œReferendum Act on annexes and amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republicâ€ and conducting referendum, press service of Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office told APA. Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov gave information about the important events recorded in the countryâ€™s socio-political life last year. He regarded the decision passed by the parliament on December 26, 2008, to hold referendum on â€œAnnexes and amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republicâ€ as one of the most significant events of the reporting year. Taking into account political significance of annexes and amendments aiming to improve most norms of the Constitution, protect human rights and freedoms more effectively, ensure decent living standards, improve supreme government agencies, including justice, judicial and local bodies, Zakir Garalov said the prosecuting bodies had much to do to study them thoroughly and provide their explanation.
Deputy General Prosecutor Namig Asadov reported about the duties of the prosecution bodies for discussion of draft Referendum Act, its explanation and providing of nationwide voting and on the basis of this report the board approved a plan of measures for learning of the Referendum Act by the prosecution workers and educating it among the public community. Chief of the organizational-analysis office of the General Prosecutorâ€™s Office Azizaga Hasanov reported at the meeting about the fulfillment of the working plan for the second half of 2008, which was discussed alongside with the working plan of the first half of 2009. General Prosecutor Zakir Garalov encharged the Officeâ€™s departments and units, as well as Republican Military Prosecutorâ€™s Office and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republicâ€™s and all subordinate prosecutors with concrete tasks related to the timely and qualitative fulfillment of the working plan for the first half of 2009 and the plan of measures specially drafted for the fulfillment of the tasks considered by the State Program on modernization of the activity of prosecution bodies.
