Baku – APA. Los Angeles hosted an event called “Azerbaijan meets Los Angeles” co-organized by Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee and Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Los Angeles. Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Los Angeles told APA that the representatives of Los Angeles state/province, representatives of the local legislative body of California, university professors, businessmen, consul generals of foreign countries, representatives of mass media, Hollywood film composers and other culture figures, as well as members of Azerbaijani and Jewish communities attended the event at Skirball Cultural Center.
The event started with a concert of music-jazz fusion by Azerbaijani Mugham Trio (kamancha, tar, naghara) and American Jazz Quartet. Azerbaijani mugham and folk songs performed by skillful instrumental performers Imamyar Hasanov (kamancha), Rufat Hasanov (tar) and Elshan Gasimov (naghara) were accompanied by the jazz band headed by famous guitarist Peter Sprague. The audience greatly applauded the performances of artists.
Following the concert, the opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled “Azerbaijan's customs service on guard of cultural heritage” took place. Ancient artifacts and other works of art from the museums of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee are being displayed at the exhibition.
Azerbaijani Consul General in Los Angeles Nasimi Aghayev made an opening speech and welcomed the guests. He underlined the great importance of such events in terms of promoting Azerbaijan in California and further strengthening of the fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and the United States.
Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Republic, Lieutenant General of Customs Services Aydin Aliyev spoke about the measures taken by the State Customs Committee to protect cultural values for future generations and the universal importance of exhibits displayed at the exhibition. Noting the damage to the cultural heritage due to the theft of cultural values through the uncontrolled territories such as Nagorno-Karabakh, the speaker stressed the importance of preventing such cases.
Special Agent-in-Charge of the DSS Los Angeles Field Office Wesley Weller and Deputy Chief of Protocol for the County of Los Angeles Lourdes Saab expressed their gratitude for such an event.
The next event will be held in San Diego, California on February 8.
