Baku – APA. 8 years have passed since establishing the governmental organization which is carrying out the Diaspora policy of the government of Azerbaijan. The organization was established according to the decree issued by Heydar Aliyev on July 5, 2002 for the development of relations with the Azerbaijanis abroad, press service of the State Committee for Diaspora Activities told APA. On November 19, 2008, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to establish the State Committee for Diaspora Activities on the basis of the State Committee for Work with the Azerbaijanis living abroad. Essentials of the government policy for work with the Azerbaijanis abroad are determined by the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan about the government policy on the Azerbaijanis living and working abroad adopted on December 27, 2002. The law is determining the legal principles which create opportunities to solve the important issues such as elaboration of the single strategy to reach serious achievements. A number of significant measures were carried out in the past eight years of the State Committee’s activity for organizing the Azerbaijani people abroad, protection of national and spiritual values between our compatriots and protection of their rights and freedoms. The State Committee worked out a charter of the World Azerbaijanis, which was adopted on December 18, 2008 at the meeting of the World Azerbaijanis Coordinating Council in Baku. About 370 Azerbaijani communities are working in the different countries and the process of organizing of our Diaspora is continuing.
