Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-Economics. World stocks have mainly fallen, as Wall Street sentiment was dampened by a warning that the world’s biggest economy was already facing recession.
The Dow fell 231.77, or 2.50 percent, to 9,033.66.
Broader indexes also declined. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 30.35, or 3.08 percent, to 955.05. The Nasdaq composite index shed 73.35, or 4.14 percent, to 1,696.68.
Light, sweet crude fell $3.36 to settle at $70.89 barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 16.19, or 2.96 percent, to 530.65.
Japan’s Nikkei stock average closed up 3.34 percent. Britain’s FTSE 100 fell 1.24 percent, Germany’s DAX index fell 1.05 percent, and France’s CAC-40 rose 0.78 percent.
In the foreign exchange market, the euro hit a 19-month low under 1.32 US dollars on worries about a European economic slowdown, traders said.
The European single currency sank to 1.3162 dollars - which was last seen on March 13, 2007.
