"In the last 200 years, Armenians have been engaged in ethnic cleansing since they were settled in the South Caucasus," Chairman of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community Aziz Alakbarli said at a public hearing on "The toponyms of Western Azerbaijan: from the distortion of history to the restoration of justice" held at Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The community chair said that this ethnic cleansing was observed by erasing the names of Azerbaijanis living in Western Azerbaijan from history: "Immediately after the Yerevan fortress was occupied, the Armenians turned the Rajab Pasha mosque there into a church of the French. Our other mosques were also destroyed, except for the Blue Mosque, there is no trace of any of them. From the beginning of the last century, the Armenians officially started changing our toponyms, and this process continues today. Armenians try to lose the historical traces by changing the names they have already changed once or twice. Every time when investigated, new names are discovered."
