"Georgia is currently the only candidate for the OSCE chairmanship on which a final decision has not yet been made. However, we will continue our efforts to reach a consensus," Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili said on Imedi TV's "Imedi Live" program, APA's local bureau reports.
According to her, Georgia continues to work with its partners to secure support for its candidacy for the OSCE chairmanship and hopes that a consensus will be reached within the organization.
The minister noted that Slovakia has openly supported Georgia's candidacy for the OSCE chairmanship in 2027.
"We also know from unofficial sources about the positions of a number of European Union member states that they will express support for Georgia's candidacy. EU countries may agree on a common position, but within the OSCE, the position of each individual participating state is recorded," the foreign minister added.
Asked whether any country had blocked Georgia's candidacy, Maka Botchorishvili said she could not name a specific country at this stage.
It should be noted that Georgia submitted its candidacy for the OSCE chairmanship in January this year. According to reports, the EU opposes Georgia's chairmanship of the organization.
