The integration of the Middle Corridor with the Three Seas transport initiative could be discussed at the expert level, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during his speech at the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries, held in the city of Turkmenbashi, APA's correspondent dispatched to Turkmenistan reports.

Tokayev noted that particular importance is attached to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

According to him, developments in recent years indicate growing demand for this route, known as the Middle Corridor.

"I believe that, at the initial stage, the integration of the Middle Corridor with the Three Seas transport initiative could be discussed at the expert level. This would expand the existing potential and serve the long-term interests of our countries," the President of Kazakhstan said.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan is consistently developing its transport infrastructure. He also pointed out that implementation of the Aral–Caspian Highway project, which will connect China with the Caspian Sea and subsequently with European markets, has begun.

Citing World Bank estimates, the President of Kazakhstan stated that if all infrastructure tasks are completed, freight transportation across the Caspian Sea could increase fourfold by 2040.
