Azerbaijan’s Gilavar Photo Club Public Union continued its international campaign to have a “mine-free world” declared as the UN’s 18th Sustainable Development Goal in Brno, the second-largest city of the Czech Republic, on October 7, 2026, the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations told APA.

In partnership with the “Land of Fire” diaspora organization of Azerbaijanis in the Czech Republic, an exhibition on Armenia’s mine warfare against Azerbaijan was opened in Brno.

It was reported that the exhibition featured documentary photographs reflecting the life stories of Azerbaijanis affected by Armenia’s mine warfare and the severe consequences of mine explosions.

Visitors were informed that the extensive contamination of Azerbaijani territories with mines by Armenia during the occupation and the failure of the other side to provide accurate mine maps to this day remain among the biggest obstacles to the safe return of Azerbaijanis to their native lands. It was noted that, as a practical expression of commitment to peace and in order to strengthen mutual trust, Armenia should demonstrate humanitarian responsibility and should not conceal accurate mine maps. It was also emphasized at the Brno exhibition that the mine problem and the issue of missing persons are closely interconnected, and that civilians are the main victims of both. Thus, 32 mass graves have so far been discovered in the liberated territories, and examinations conducted on human remains have confirmed that the killed Azerbaijanis were subjected to torture.

The Gilavar Photo Club is a 2026 winner of the grant competition “Initiatives on the Problem of Mines and Unexploded Ordnance,” jointly announced by Azerbaijan’s NGO Agency and the Karabakh Revival Fund in partnership with ANAMA.
