As a result of comprehensive operational-search and customs control measures carried out by employees of the Astara Customs Department, particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs have been discovered and seized from illegal circulation, APA reports, citing the State Customs Committee.
It was noted that a cargo vehicle arriving in Azerbaijan from the Islamic Republic of Iran was subjected to a customs inspection at the import control line of the department's Astara customs post.
Although no items concealed from customs control were found in the vehicle during the inspection, the driver's behavior aroused suspicion among customs officers.
As a result, a personal search of the driver was conducted. During the search, a large quantity of the narcotic drug methadone, consisting of a total of 3,000 tablets, was discovered in three packages attached to his waist with a corset.
In addition, during customs control measures, two packages that the driver had thrown onto the territory of the customs post were also inspected.
The inspection revealed a particularly large quantity of the narcotic drug heroin, produced by a homemade method, with a total net weight of 2 kilograms and 950 grams.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
