Azerbaijani pedagogues hold their XIII Congress

Addressing the welcoming ceremony, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov said education budges increased for more than five times and reached 1.1 billion AZN and investments raised from 5.8 million to 200 million AZN over the past five years since XII Congress, APA reports. Wages of education employees increased for six, the student scholarship for 10 and post-graduate scholarship for 4.5 times. 14 state education development programs were approved for the first time in the history of education. Speaking about the different stages of the education, the minister said 11 new kindergartens were constructed and handed over in Baku for the first time in the last twenty years. 21 kindergartens will be reconstructed and provided with the new equipments before end of the year.
Mardanov acknowledged that there were no successful results in the field of preschool education yet. â€œPreschool education coverage doesnâ€™t get over 16 per cent for long time. This figure is 99 in Finland, 90 in Germany and 50-85 per cent in some CIS countries. The analysis shows that averagely 20 per cent of first grade pupils come from preschool groups of kindergartens every year. Therefore taken the situation into consideration we need in the governmentâ€™s support for organizing the preschool preparation in the secondary schoolsâ€.
Mardanov noted that every one of 29 pupils in 5-11th classes had a computer. It is planned to provide 200 schools with large Internet opportunities this year, to establish DAT center, base of education resources, single education program and etc. The first grade pupils have begun 2008-2009 year of education with the new curriculums.

Mardanov also spoke about the problems of vocational schools. He said 8 vocational schools were reconstructed this year. The Minister said that credit system covering 40 students in 21 high schools of Azerbaijan was started in September, 2006. 15 high and 6 vocational schools were accredited.
Then letters of congratulations have been read and delegates have spoken about the education problems at the congress.
