The voluntary blood donation campaign held in Azerbaijan in connection with Ashura is continuing, APA reports.

Leaders of religious denominations in Azerbaijan have taken part in the blood donation campaign.

Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, will not participate in the campaign. The head of the Board is currently on a visit to the Republic of Mauritius to attend the annual meeting of the 2026 World Council of the organization "Religions for Peace," being held on June 23–26.

Note that today marks Ashura.

The blood donation campaign is being held at the initiative of the Caucasus Muslims Board and jointly organized by the Ministry of Health. This year's campaign is taking place at 40 collection points across 30 cities and districts of the country. Of these, 24 collection points are located at mosques and shrines, 15 at medical institutions, and one at an educational institution.

The blood collected during the campaign will be used in the treatment of patients suffering from hemophilia, thalassemia, and other diseases.

The campaign, which began at 08:00, will continue throughout the day.

Recall that the month of Muharram began on June 16.
