Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC (ADY), a company of AZCON Holding, has toured "CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd." as part of his official visit to China, holding talks with the company's head, Wang Xiaolin, APA reports.
During the meeting, the development of railway passenger transportation in Azerbaijan and the expansion of the modern rolling stock fleet were discussed.
Rustamov expressed ADY's interest in developing cooperation with CRRC Zhuzhou, one of the world's leading companies in rolling stock production.
He stated that the modernization of railway transport in Azerbaijan is one of the priorities for providing more comfortable, safe, reliable and sustainable passenger services: "One of ADY's goals is to build a modern rolling stock fleet that addresses flexibly to growing passenger demand. Negotiations on the purchase of new passenger trains are of great importance in terms of improving service quality on both suburban and intercity routes."
The sides explored opportunities for the acquisition of 4 new passenger trains for operating on intercity railway routes in Azerbaijan, while also inspected the trains presented by CRRC Zhuzhou. They exchanged views on the technical parameters of the rolling stock, energy efficiency, modern AI-powered safety systems, operational durability, spare parts supply, maintenance, and training opportunities.
In addition, the purchase of 20 passenger trains under the "2025–2030 State Program for improving transport infrastructure in Baku and its surrounding areas" approved by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, was also discussed. Relevant proposals from the Chinese side were evaluated, and views were exchanged on the technical, commercial, and implementation mechanisms of the project.
The ADY delegation also toured "CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co." and met with the company's head, Yan Qi.
Rovshan Rustamov voiced ADY's interest in leveraging extensive experience of "CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd." in the production of passenger carriages, electric trains, and other rolling stock. The company's relevant technological capabilities open up opportunities for cooperation on future projects for modernizing ADY's passenger transportation fleet.
During the meeting, technical and commercial matters related to the purchase of 4 new passenger trains and 50 passenger carriages were broadly discussed. The parties exchanged views on the technical specifications of the trains and carriages, safety systems, passenger comfort and maintenance capabilities, spare parts supply, as well as staff training and technology transfer.
