The Kremlin has advised the country's residents to switch to Android and "national systems" after the VKontakte app was removed from the App Store, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said while commenting on the removal of the VK app from the App Store, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
He also said that the Russian authorities would contact Apple to seek clarification on the matter.
"The fact is that this is not the first time Apple has removed our application from the Russian Apple Store. The latest case involved the MAX app, and there have been other instances as well. Of course, this raises questions about the reliability of that service and the extent to which it can be trusted as a commercial service provider. Naturally, before drawing any conclusions, we and the relevant authorities must contact this service. Clarification will be requested from the corporation.
If clarification is provided, we will have to draw conclusions about whether to continue any interaction with this company. Such decisions to remove our applications, especially such popular ones, from the Apple Store harm the interests of users not only in our country but also across the Russian-speaking world, where VK and all of its affiliated services are actively used. We are talking about tens of millions of people affected by Apple's, at the very least, strange decisions. Switch to Android, switch to our national systems, switch to our equivalent service," the Kremlin spokesperson stressed.
