Azerbaijan to increase work permit fee for foreigners

The Ministry told APA-Economics that the fee is proposed to be increased up to AZN 1 000 from AZN 45.
The purpose of the increase is to prevent economic migration of unnecessary foreign employees.
The ministry said in a statement that a presidential decree dated August 5 on migration management service will help prevent the entrance of undesired foreign workers to Azerbaijani labor market.
The ministry said there may be revisions in proposals and the fee may be a little less than the proposed.
The rise depends on the Cabinet, said the ministry.
Under the presidential decree, the relevant bodies of Azerbaijan will set quotas for economic migration depending on the demand for workforce in a particular field of the economy.
Foreigners are issued a one-year work permit that can be extended four times. About 4 000 foreigners have legal permit to work in Azerbaijan, 73% of which are employed in non-oil sector.
