Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev – APA. Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Association Hidayat Orujov held a press conference on Friday. He emphasized the strengthening of tolerance in the country and said great work has been done in the field of religious education. Orujov said 534 religious communities had been registered in Azerbaijan so far and 32 of them were non-Islamic. The committee chairman said religious literature entered the country were examined. “750 books were examined in 2007 and 140 books suggested religious intolerance were not allowed to enter the country. 1500 books were examined in 2008 and 59 books suggested religious intolerance and discrimination were prevented to spread in the country”.

Orujov mentioned the amendments to the law on freedom of faith and said it would have positive impact on the protection of freedom of faith and stability in this field. “It will prevent individual interests of the persons who concern over the amendments”.

The committee chairman said he accepted the amendments proposed by the parliamentarians as normal. Orujov expressed opinion about the issue related to the religious figures educated abroad. “Sometimes education abroad takes 15 years. It is very delicate point. The government has no information about most of them and they are getting education abroad on the invitation of foreign countries”.
