Major indices on global stock markets recorded declines amid elections in the United States, APA-Economics reports.

On November 3, the Dow Jones index in the US fell by 197.26 points, or 0.38%, to 51,786.72 points. The S&P 500 index rose by 27.52 points, or 0.36%, to 7,568.92 points, while the Nasdaq Composite index increased by 207.65 points, or 0.83%, to 25,372.01 points.

The NYSE Composite index declined by 0.27% to 24,307.04 points, while Canada's S&P/TSX Composite index fell by 0.75% to 35,532.28 points.

All major indices declined on European stock markets. The Euro Stoxx 50 index fell by 0.51% to 6,144.56 points, while the UK's FTSE 100 index dropped by 1.14% to 10,638.43 points.

Germany's DAX index declined by 0.45% to 25,864.62 points, France's CAC 40 index fell by 0.34% to 8,020.31 points, and Spain's IBEX 35 index decreased by 0.79% to 18,807.20 points.

Declines were also predominantly observed in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell by 3.97% to 60,579.00 points, while the TOPIX index dropped by 2.70% to 3,824.18 points.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index declined by 0.12% to 23,498.11 points. China's CSI 300 index, meanwhile, increased by 0.04% to 4,010.35 points.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index fell by 0.77% to 8,818.80 points. The broader regional MSCI AC Asia Pacific index declined by 1.23% to 255.86 points.

According to analysts, the negative performance of stock markets is linked to uncertainty surrounding the results of the US midterm elections, selling pressure in the technology sector, and concerns about the profitability of large investments in artificial intelligence.

These factors have increased investors' caution toward risky assets and intensified pressure, particularly on stock indices in the Asia-Pacific region.
